Flesch Reading Ease

Flesch Reading Ease (1948) is a readability test. The score on the test will tell you roughly what level of education someone will need to be able to read a piece of text easily. (Source)
How to read the score?
- The Reading Ease formula generates a score between 1 and 100
- a score of 70-80 is equivalent to school grade level 7

- Can work also in other languages than EN
- Problem: does not take into account complexity of words
The Gunning Fog Index

The Gunning Fog formula generates a grade level, typically between 0 and 20. The formula estimates the years of formal education the reader requires to understand the text on first reading. (Source)
How to read the scores
- Text to be read by the general public should aim for a grade level of around 8.
- Text above a score of 17 should be taken to have graduate level readability.
